An individual who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC explained objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she added.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.
She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a space of five children.
